Low Dose Naltrexone (LDN)

According to studies, LDN may be used for symptom relief in any autoimmune condition and has been most effective in painful conditions.

LDN

LDN is a compounded prescription medication. It works by blocking opioid receptors in your brain. This increases the release of endorphins, causing your body to perceive less pain and feel better. At low doses, it is thought to block some immune cells that cause inflammation. This means that it may also help reduce inflammation.

LDN does not work immediately.  It may take a few weeks or months to see a difference.  For some individuals, it may take up to 6 months to see the full benefit at the maximum dose.

The great news is there are very few patients that experience side effects from this medication. However, some patients have reported experiencing vivid dreams or difficulty sleeping. Other patients with multiple sclerosis may have increased spasms or fatigue. In rare cases, patients may experience nausea, constipation, or diarrhea.  If you experience troublesome side effects, your dose can be adjusted to help relieve these symptoms and decrease these side effects over time.
